Webster County offers several wonderful places to stop while here for a day or longer. You can start just outside of Cowen at the Rimfire Gallery at Riffle Pottery on Route 82 and admire all the handmade pottery by Webster County native Larry Riffle.
After visiting the pottery gallery you might want to stop at Big Ditch Lake, which is less than 1/2 mile away. A one-mile trail takes you around the lakeshore. This is a great spot to stop for a picnic or for casting your line into the water.
Next on the tour is a stop at the Visitors Center & Gift Shop in Webster Springs, which is also know as Addison and is the county seat. The Visitors Center sells the work of over 100 different West Virginia artists plus they can provide you with information on other local attractions. Once you are in Webster Springs, make sure you walk around the historic Court Square, which is just a block away from the Visitors Center. There are several restaurants in town in case you are ready for a meal.
When you are ready to move on, your next destination will be Hacker Valley in the Northern part of the county. Take Route 20 North out of Webster Springs through Diana until you reach Holly River State Park, West Virginia's second largest state park. Take a hike through the woods or along the river. Travel back through time as when you go through the historic one-room schoolhouse or just relax some in nature.
A few miles North of Holly River State Park is cabinet maker and woodworker Steven Fisher, owner of Valley Woodworks. Steven is well-know in the area for this woodworking talents and his prices can't be beat for hand-crafted kitchen cabinets. Across the road from Valley Woodworks is the Jerry Run Summer Theater, which offers live music on weekends in the summertime. Check their schedule to see what's coming up! |
